What Is Web Accessibility?

Web accessibility means designing websites, documents, videos, online tools, and other digital content so that people with disabilities can independently access, understand, navigate, and interact with them.

Accessible design can assist individuals with visual, hearing, mobility, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. It can also improve usability for older adults, people using mobile devices, individuals with temporary disabilities, and anyone accessing information under challenging conditions.

Building a More Accessible Website

As Avoyelles Parish Schools continues improving its website and digital resources, we are working to support accessibility through practices such as:

  • Providing meaningful alternative text for important images
  • Using headings and page structure that assist navigation
  • Maintaining readable text and sufficient color contrast
  • Providing descriptive links instead of vague phrases such as “click here”
  • Supporting keyboard navigation
  • Adding captions or transcripts to multimedia when appropriate
  • Improving the accessibility of PDFs and other documents
  • Using clear, understandable language and page organization
  • Regularly reviewing website content for accessibility concerns

Accessibility Is an Ongoing Effort

Our website contains a large amount of information that has been created and maintained over many years. Some older documents or content may not yet meet current accessibility standards.

Avoyelles Parish Schools is actively reviewing, updating, replacing, and remediating digital content as part of our ongoing website improvement efforts. If you encounter a barrier before we have corrected it, please contact us so we can assist you.
