LEAP 2025

LEAP 2025 measures student performance in core academic areas and helps schools understand student progress toward Louisiana standards.

ACT

The ACT supports college and career readiness planning and may be used for admissions, scholarships, and postsecondary opportunities.

Testing Calendar & Important Dates

Testing windows may vary by grade level, school, and assessment. Families should watch for school and district communications with specific testing dates, reminders, and student instructions.

Schools will share information about testing schedules, arrival times, materials, attendance expectations, and any make-up testing opportunities.

Family Resources

How Families Can Help

  • Make sure students attend school on testing days.
  • Encourage students to get a good night’s sleep.
  • Review school testing reminders carefully.
  • Help students arrive on time and prepared.
  • Contact the school with questions about testing schedules.

Understanding Scores

Assessment results help families and educators understand student progress. Schools can help families review score reports and identify next steps for support or enrichment.

Test Preparation

Students can prepare for assessments by participating in daily instruction, completing class assignments, reviewing teacher feedback, and using available practice resources when provided.

For state testing practice resources, families may use official Louisiana Department of Education resources linked in the sidebar.

DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)

The K-3 Literacy Screener consists of a set of measures for assessing reading skills. This universal screening identifies students who may need extra support in reading and monitors their progress over time. Teachers use this data to set and monitor literacy goals, as well as provide instructional support.

It assesses:

  1. Phonemic Awareness – Recognizing and manipulating sounds in spoken words.
  2. Alphabetic Principle & Phonics – Letter-sound relationships and decoding skills.
  3. Fluency – Reading accuracy, speed, and expression.
  4. Vocabulary – Understanding word meanings.
  5. Comprehension – Understanding and making meaning from text.

This screener is given three times a year: Beginning of Year (BOY), Middle of Year (MOY), and End of Year (EOY).

The LEAP (Louisiana Educational Assessment Program) tests measure students' mastery of Louisiana state academic standards in core subjects. These tests are given to students in grades 3-12 and assess:

  2. Mathematics – Problem-solving, algebra, geometry, and number operations.
  3. Science – Life, physical, and earth sciences, including scientific reasoning.
  4. Social Studies – History, geography, civics, and economics.

LEAP tests are designed to evaluate student progress, ensure they are meeting grade-level expectations, and determine readiness for the next grade or course. In high school, LEAP 2025 tests are required for graduation in specific subjects.

Assessments in grades 3–8 include:

LEAP 2025

High school students take assessments to determine if they are ready for college and/or careers, as well as to secure postsecondary credit and access. Louisiana will administer LEAP 2025 high school assessments, which report student results using five performance levels. There are seven subject tests from four subject areas: English, mathematics, science, and social studies. The assessments can be compared to LEAP 2025 assessments in grades three through eight, providing a consistent measure of student performance and growth from grades three through eleven.

High School Assessments include:

  • LEAP 2025: English I & II, Algebra I, Geometry, Civics/U.S. History, Biology
  • American College Test (ACT)
  • WorkKeys

  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

  • Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) Connect

  • English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT)

Students transferring into grades 3 through High School in the public school system from any in-state non-public school or any home school program, or any Louisiana resident transferring from any out-of-state school must take the LEAP test or State placement test (grades 4 and 8). Students must register through the Avoyelles Parish School System. Homeschooling students who wish to take the LEAP Test (Grades 3-8) must also register through the Avoyelles Parish School System. The deadline for registering for the 2026 Spring LEAP test is April 10, 2026.
