Child Welfare and Attendance is a student and family support service. We are here to assist families with understanding compulsory education laws, student admission and enrollment procedures, student discipline procedures, transfers to alternative programs, and school climate and safety. We are committed to:

  • Being advocates for students and families.

  • Addressing the psychosocial needs of students and families and barriers that adversely affect their attendance in school and offering support.

  • Partnering with schools and community agencies to support students and families to maximize student success.

  • Promoting good school attendance practices for PK-12 students, families and schools.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR
STUDENTS & FAMILIES

Two new Louisiana laws address school threats and the misuse of artificial intelligence-generated images.

  • Act 619 of 2026 makes threats, intimidation, and false reports of violence involving schools or school-sponsored activities illegal. Threats made as jokes, pranks, social media posts, text messages, or verbal statements will be taken seriously.
  • Act 782 of 2026 prohibits creating, possessing, sharing, or selling certain AI-generated sexual images of real or realistic individuals without their consent—including through social media, text apps, or other electronic devices.

Violations may result in school discipline, criminal charges, juvenile court consequences, fines, or other legal action.

Please talk with your child about the seriousness of online and verbal behavior. If you see or hear something concerning, report it immediately to a trusted adult or school official.

Thank you for partnering with Avoyelles Parish Schools to help keep our students safe.

Act 782 of 2026, the AI Image Regulation and Protection Act, makes it illegal to create, possess, share, or sell certain artificial intelligence-generated images depicting real or realistic individuals in a sexual manner without their consent. This includes images created or shared through social media, text apps, or any electronic device. Penalties may include criminal charges and prosecution; school discipline, suspension, or expulsion; juvenile court consequences; and fines or financial responsibility.
