Transportation
Helping APS students travel safely and efficiently to and from school each day.
Transportation & Bus Safety
Keeping students safe as they travel to and from school is a priority of Avoyelles Parish Schools. Families can help by reviewing bus expectations and safe riding practices with their children.
Safety, Efficiency & Customer Service
We strive to be the most unique and innovative public school transportation department in Louisiana through our relentless pursuit to exceed standards of safety, efficiency and customer service. We aim to be progressive in our relationships with current and potential partner districts in order to develop and sustain partnerships that exemplify cost effectiveness and provide proactive service.
Bus Safety Reminders for Families
Riding an Avoyelles Parish School bus is a privilege, not a right. Please talk with your student about good behavior and the important role it plays in keeping everyone on the bus safe.
- Once on the bus, students should find a seat and sit down immediately.
- Students should talk quietly and avoid disruptive behavior, sudden yelling, or sudden movements that could distract the bus driver.
- If a conflict occurs with another student, wait until the bus reaches its destination and report the incident to the bus driver and the student's teacher.
- While waiting for the bus, students should never push or shove other children near the roadway.
- Students should never cross the street directly in front of the bus. They should use an approved crosswalk or street light when appropriate.
- Families should review bus lights and safety signals with students and understand when motorists are required to stop for a school bus.
Working together keeps students safe. Review these expectations regularly with your child and encourage safe, respectful behavior while waiting for and riding the school bus.

Important Bus Route Update
To improve safety and comply with LDOE, Title 28 Education, Bulletin 119, the Avoyelles Parish School Board has passed a new resolution regarding buses traveling on dead-end roads.
Regular education bus drivers will no longer travel down dead-end roads that require backing up to turn around. Only Special Needs buses with a bus aide are allowed to reverse when necessary.
Regular education buses may only back up in emergency situations and with prior permission.
Drivers are reworking routes to avoid the need for reversing and will contact parents whose students are affected by a route change.
