Recognizing a Concern

When Should Families Reach Out?

Families know their children best. Consider reaching out to your child's school, healthcare provider, counselor, or another appropriate support professional when you notice concerns such as:

Trust what you notice. Reaching out early can help connect a student with appropriate support and resources.
  • Major changes in mood or behavior
  • Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities
  • Difficulty coping with stress, grief, or major life changes
  • Frequent anxiety, fear, sadness, or anger
  • Changes in school attendance or academic performance
  • Concerns about bullying, peer relationships, or social isolation
  • Any concern that a student may be unsafe or in crisis
